Seeking the exceptional in the everyday; Hinoki craft highly-refined kitchen instruments that fit seamlessly into hands and hearts.
It finds purpose in the belief that well designed products inspire the mind, stimulate the senses and ultimately enhance the way we live.
Each Hinoki essential challenges obsolescence and reflects a relentless pursuit of uncompromising quality married with the preservation of traditional technique and modern innovation, whilst ultimately striving for the elimination of waste.
Hinoki was established in Melbourne, Australia by Hamish Grace.
MADE WITH HEART AND HAND
Each Hinoki Blade is crafted by our collective of Master Bladesmiths in Sakai, Osaka — a locality whose rich experience in The Art of Japanese Bladesmithing dates back centuries to the time of the samurai and is widely considered the pre-eminent manufacturing hub of the finest knives in all of Japan.
Australia is where our Master Woodworkers meticulously hand carve each wooden handle, it is where our leather goods are stitched and our protective Companion oils composed.
Hinoki believes that food, the kitchen and the instruments within it are highly-effective tools that can also be employed in a number of political, social and romantic areas; to create change, end conflict and communicate where language can not.
With this in mind, a portion of proceeds from the purchase of a Hinoki essential is donated towards ‘Food for Soul’ — a nonprofit organization founded by chef Massimo Bottura, promoting social awareness about food wastage and hunger.
